A deep water culture system is one of the easiest ways for beginners to learn how to grow using the hydroponic method. This guide will help you understand the process of growing and can be used as a reference throughout your first hydroponic grow.

Deep Water Culture Preparations

If you are looking to set up your hydroponic system, check out our guide to setting it up here.
Once you have your hydro system set up and located in an area within your home that is temperature-controlled and comfortable, it’s time to start growing!
If you need to check out how to germinate your seed, our grow guide will give you all the information you need to get started.
Once your seed has germinated and you have placed it into the rapid rooter under the required light setting, check to see if it has fully germinated. A fully germinated seed will have its root system poking out of the rapid rooter. That is when you know that it is time to plant it in your lava rocks.
The lava rocks act as your grow medium. These replace the soil and due to their porous design of them, it allows optimal airflow. Simply place your rapid rooter plug into the basket and let it sit. There you go, it’s that easy!

When to add nutrients.

Knowing when to add nutrients and how much to add is the main focal point for hydroponic growers.
To start. Your hydroponic system holds 5-gallons. Our method is to add 1 teaspoon of nutrients per 1-gallon. To make it simpler, you will need 5 teaspoons worth of nutrients for each bucket.

Monitor Your pH Levels

The best way to monitor your pH levels is by making sure they are within a nice balanced range.

Typically, you want your levels to be between 5.5 and 6. This will ensure that your plants are receiving the proper nutrients that will enable it to grow big and strong! Anything too high or too low will lock out your plants from receiving vital nutrients to sustain it!
